The act of intentionally ending life is mediated by a wide range of triggers, including social and economic factors, hereditary characteristics, personality traits with clinical manifestations such as anxiety and depression, which through humanist-oriented interventions are it can prevent suicide especially in subjects who have presented suicidal ideation. Therefore, a psychotherapeutic intervention from the Gestalt approach was designed and implemented with the aim of analyzing the changes in the suicidal ideation of a young university student as a case study, through 21 one-hour sessions once a week analyzing the findings from a qualitative approach with a pre-experimental psychotherapy design through gestalt techniques. Among the obtained findings, the effectiveness of the gestalt psychotherapeutic process was found considering the contact process as a relevant intervention strategy to be included in the subject internal word, favoring both the decrease in suicidal ideation and the reduction of risk and depressive symptoms. An increase in flexibility and organismic flow was observed, through the deepening of awareness allowing greater body awareness; recognition and emotional expression, as well as, satisfaction of needs through more functional contact styles, the closure of unfinished business and the strengthening of the self, promoting psychosocial and personal changes in the participant.Palabras Clave: Psicoterapia Gestalt, joven universitario, ideación suicida Abstract Suicide ranks as one of the most serious consequences of unhealthy mental functioning.
